The flap is typically made of butyl rubber other synthetic materials designed to the flexible and airtight to hold air pressure effectively. Unlike natural rubber inner tubes which are porous and can sometimes leak under pressure, butyl is impermeable to air and will outperform the natural rubber inner tube.
